BEHIND THE SCREEN

Online mental training group for musicians taking orchestral auditions.

Your excerpts are virtually flawless. Your concerto - it's been polished since you were a freshman. And yet... once you are playing for a screened audition committee who knows what will happen. Somedays you sound like yourself, other days you suddenly find an eruption of delights - bow shakes, missed shifts, a spiccato which is about as steady as a kid's sandcastle at high tide... Sound familiar? Oh good! You're normal! This weekly online small group will allow you to learn AND PRACTICE the mental skills which can transform your audition experience. Using research-based techniques and exercises, you will learn and practice within the safety of a small group of peers who are all facing the challenges of the orchestra audition process. Led by Mental Performance coach and Cleveland Orchestra cellist, Martha Baldwin, this group will explore the world of Sport and Performance Psychology Skills within the context of music and with the added benefit of being led by a practitioner who is both a fellow performer and a long-time audition committee member. This group will be limited to 8 musicians. Time/day TBD - dependent on participant's schedules. Course Length: 10 weeks Cost: $350 Option to pay in 2 installments of $175

PERFORM IT

MONDAYS

Weekly performance class for string players

Mondays: 6-7pm

The first step to becoming a more accomplished and comfortable performer is.... performing! This is both performance training and a social outlet for string players ages 10 - 18. Through experiential learning and social practice, we will work on all aspects of musical performance - from stage presence to ensemble playing to performance anxiety. Will you be playing in front of a group of supportive peers? YES You don't have a piece perfectly polished? GREAT! You'll still be performing. Sometimes a scale, an étude, maybe just a single phrase. You might be forced to speak, sing, or dance (ok, probably not dance, but you never know...) But I get nervous performing! Welcome to the club :) When: Mondays 6-7pm (no class on long weekends, Dec. 15, 22, 29, Jan. 26, March 30, April 6) Starts: December 1, 2025 Ends: May18, 2026 Cost: 3 payments of $200 (Billed at registration, February 1, and April 1)
